Jeff Hofmann's radio report.

Advisers hope a reader survey will make The Daily Universe a better reflection of what BYU students want to read about.

"We want to be the true newspaper of BYU," said Casey Stauffer, Daily Universe advertising manager. "We want to align what is being reported with what students want to read about."

Stauffer worked in conjunction with Pulse Research, a professional market research company, to design the survey questions.

The Internet survey allows Daily Universe readers to voice their opinions about the newspaper's current content and make suggestions for possible improvements.

"We want to serve our readers," said Robb Hicken, NewsNet editorial director. "This is an opportunity for students to participate in their newspaper."

Survey responses will be taken seriously, and changes will be made based on readers' comments, Stauffer said.

There are other incentives for students to participate in the survey. Three random respondents will have their Signature Card credited with $150, $100, and $50, respectively.

Students are also surveyed about their spending habits to better tailor the advertising that appears in The Daily Universe.

"The more The Daily Universe can know about the BYU market, the better," said Tristen Harrison, 20, a Daily Universe ad rep and marketing major from San Diego. "This information helps us put the right buyers with the right sellers."

The survey can be accessed at pulseresearch.com/dailyuniverse.
