Dear Editor,
I think people have misunderstood Jon Madsen's point and his intent of his viewpoint.
We all have been deeply hurt and affected by the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. But even though the United States was the target of a brutal and evil act this does not mean that the United States is beyond reproach.
Though we live in a promised and blessed nation we are not perfect. People have criticized Madsen for trying to "understand" terrorism. Gasp!!
Although these claims seem to be just as bad as terrorism itself, it is actually quite a wise and humble reaction to the attacks. Madsen never made "excuses" for the terrorists nor claimed they were justified in the attacks.
Instead he took the opportunity to do a little self-searching. This is commendable. We should always be engaged in reflection upon "our lifestyle and whether or not it should change," so we can continuously make the changes needed to become a more righteous people.
Yes, we should fight terrorism but we should also fight the natural man in us that embraces things worldly, decadent, and carnal. I commend Madsen on his well-written and insightful article.
