BYU's long jumpers places in their events at the Oval Qualifier.

At the Oval Qualifier, the second indoor meet hosted by BYU this season, the women's track and field team posted strong marks Thursday Feb. 20 and Friday Feb. 21.

"We competed very well, and we obtained the objective of what we wanted to do for this particular meet," Poole said. "It was not intended to be a great meet, as much as it was to have a very strong stimulus in preparation for next week."

The purpose of the meet was to qualify more athletes for indoor nationals and get a high-intensity workout before the weekend, Poole said.

Freshman Aneta Lemiesz earned a first-place finish in the 800-meter, provisionally qualifying her for nationals and setting a new BYU record with a time of 2 minutes, 8.60 seconds.

Senior teammate Jaime Cottle placed third in the 800-meter, with a time of 2:11.97.

In the mile run, sophomore Kassi Anderson captured a first-place finish, running it in 4:51.44.

Sophomore Lindsey Sommer won the triple jump with a leap of 38-02 and placed third in the long jump with a mark of 17-11 1/2.

Junior Alicia Thompson placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 34-11 1/4.

Freshman Kristen Mc-Gregor posted a season best in the pole vault for the Cougars with a height of 11-09 3/4.

Freshman Maret Komarova earned third-place and a BYU season best in the shot put with a throw of 46-06 1/4. Teammates Chelsea Weenig and Susan Clayton earned fourth and fifth place in the event.

In the weight throw, Malita Bingham and Weenig placed second and third-place respectively, with marks of 55-00 1/4 and 54-02 1/2.

Freshman Mary Bennion also added a third-place finish in the 200 and 400-meter dashes for the Cougars.

Teams competing Thursday and Friday included BYU, the University of Utah, the University of Idaho, Weber State, UVSC and several athletes competing unattached.

The Cougars will prepare this week in practice to gear up for the Mountain West Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. this weekend.
