HomestarRunner now has some Book of Mormon buddies, thanks to the imagination of one BYU student. and a new way to look at the Book of Mormon.
Charan Prabhakar and friends have created a Book of Mormon cartoon Web site called BomToons. Their goofy toons are planted at bomtoons.com.
“We are creative guys and we love things involving films and acting,” said Prabhaker, a 24-year-old marriage, family and human development major and aspiring actor. “We throw ideas off each other, and we think of things as we read the scriptures.”
The Web site includes vintage video games with a Book of Mormon twist.
Game titles include “Gideon-Fu”, “BMX LDS” and “3 Nephite Time Warriors.”
BomToons also offers mini Flash DVDs of the first few books of the Book of Mormon.
The Web site is free, and the group does not currently have any commercial motivations.
“We are just making this site for fun,” Prabhakar said. “We might sell t-shirts if it gets popular.”
Born in India, Prabhaker’s parents brought him to Provo while still an infant. He joined the church at age 17 while attending Timpview High School.
“I love being around people and talking to people,” Prabhaker said. “After I joined the church I became way more social and interested in learning. I plan on taking the teachings I learn and applying it to different films and Web sites.”
His mother, Latha Palani, describes him as an actor and role model.
“He loves drama and loved creativity in high school,” Palani said. “He is my oldest son, and he is a great example for the family. He studies MFHD so that he can be a good family man and motivational speaker.”
Prabhakar said he hopes his voice-acting and Web skills on BomToons.com will help propel his acting career.
“I love making people happy,” said Prabhakar. “I want to use BomToons to help people see the brighter side of things.”
