Police Tip from Captain Mike Harroun

"It might be a good idea to let people know that, even though [skateboarding] is a popular activity, it is prohibited on campus at any time. There is a city ordinance that we enforce. Initially we give a warning, but we will give a citation if there is a repeat offence."

Skateboarding

June 7: Four individuals were skateboarding by the Harold B. Lee Library. An officer arrived and they fled in different directions. The officer caught one of them who displayed a contentious attitude and used a threatening gesture towards the officer. The suspect provided false information and was issued a citation for skateboarding on campus and for providing false information to a police officer. He was released to his mother.

Fraud

June 12: Someone who is prohibited to cash checks at the Creamery on Ninth provided a signed check with a name and address printed on it. The clerk looked over her list of who not to take checks from. The name on the check appeared on the list, and the clerk refused to cash the check. The clerk also tore the check in half and the suspect fled the scene.

Accidents

June 6: There was a hit-and-run accident in lot 39. The victim parked legally in a parking stall, and the person who parked adjacent to that stall hit the left rear bumper of the vehicle. The person who hit the parked car failed to leave a note.

June 7: In lot 50, a university vehicle collided with a parked car while the university vehicle was backing up. The parked car had a broken headlight.

June 10: There was a hit-and-run accident in lot 41. A large passenger van was hit on the passenger side. The suspect left the scene without leaving a note.

June 12: In lot 2, a student employee driving a university pick-up truck misjudged the distance between his vehicle and a parked vehicle. The estimated damage is $600.

Suspicious Activity

June 11: At the intersection of 2300 North and Freedom Boulevard, in an empty area where BYU Grounds Crew keeps supplies, officers found individuals driving a truck in the lot and putting scrap wire into their truck from an adjacent lot. Officers identified the suspects and they returned the things they had taken. One suspect was arrested on a Springville City warrant, was taken to Provo Police Department and posted bail.

Suspicious Individuals

June 7: At Budge Hall, it was reported that 2 males were standing next to the bike racks looking over the bikes. Officers spoke to the males who said they were brothers there to clean air ducts in the Cannon Center.

June 7: In the Morris Center, two EFY participants were involved in suspicious activity. The EFY counselors reported the activity to the University Police and contacted the participant's parents.

June 7: A suspicious male was observed loading a bike onto a pick-up truck. The caller recorded his license plate number, which was not correct. No one at Wymount Terrace has reported a stolen bike.

June 6: At building B-72 located on University Avenue and 2230 North, an unknown male subject made lewd remarks to a female employee about her posterior. The suspect is a white male in his late 20s or early 30s with reddish blonde hair and a short goatee. He is described as having a heavy build.

June 6: Three individuals, two juveniles and one adult, were trespassing by the Indoor Practice Facility. They pulled up a metal grate and started to climb down into it. They were asked to stop and they fled the scene on skateboards. They all appeared to be Hispanic.

Assault

June 11: At the NCAA track by Helamen Halls, a female Special Olympics volunteer was struck by a male adult. He also took her glasses off her face and threw them at her. Charges are under investigation.

Theft

June 7: A BMX bike was stolen at the Smith Fieldhouse and was later recovered. The case is still under investigation

June 5: At the new intramural field located north of 2230 North, a generator and a drill were reported stolen from the construction area. The Honda generator model EU200 is valued at $1000 and the Milwaukee one half-inch pipe drill is valued at $150.

Fire Alarms

June 12: A fire alarm went off around 11 a.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library in an area where there is construction.

The ceiling was being taken down and part of it fell and broke the smoke detector.

June 7: In Taylor Hall of Helamen Halls, a fire alarm was set off by burnt popcorn.
