In a contest involving community papers from across the country, BYU's The Daily Universe received awards in seven categories.

The 2006 National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest and the Better Newspaper Advertising Contest chose The Daily Universe entries from 3,126 entries from 253 newspapers. The Daily Universe was recognized in categories including Best Family Life/Living Section, Best Single Ad Idea and Best Section or Edition Dedication to Sales Promotion.

All first place-winning entries will be displayed during a convention in Oklahoma in October. Additionally, all General Excellence winners will receive their rewards at a "Toast to the Winners" awards reception.

The National Newspaper Association is the largest newspaper association in the country and, having received so many quality submissions for this years contest, found selecting winners to be a complicated process.

"Judging the contest is always difficult due to the high quality of so many entries," said Reed Anfinson, the contest committee chairman in a news release. "Each year I wait for my turn to judge the contest knowing how much I will learning in the process."
