Late Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, Orem police arrested a 20-year-old woman who allegedly used her position as a customer service representative to steal thousands of dollars in merchandise from Overstock.com.
According to a news release provided by Orem police spokesman Lt. Doug Edwards, Samantha Hunt allegedly began creating fictitious accounts using the names of her family members and friends. After creating the accounts, Hunt would assign credit certificates to the accounts and use the credit to redeem merchandise from Overstock.com for herself and gifts for others.
The company Hunt worked for, Sento Corp., gave police documents that showed Hunt redeemed more than $26,000 in merchandise since July 2006, according to Edwards.
Hunt was fired before being arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail on felony charges of communication fraud.
