Tip of the Week: Make sure blinds and curtains are fully closed in the morning or at night when showering and getting dressed, as warmer weather tends to bring out exhibitionists. Report anyone who appears suspicious and may be lingering in parking lots paying close attention to physical description, clothing, direction of travel and a description of their car if possible. Also, remember to keep doors locked, especially at night and if you're alone in your apartment.

Theft:

July 2: A wallet was reported stolen out of a motorcycle compartment in a BYU parking lot. The wallet was reported to have contained $14, the student's identification, various coupons and an Albertson's card.

Criminal Mischief:

July 6: A man was reported soliciting females to be models in the BYU bookstore. The man said he was an artist for the art museum in Springville. Police found that the man was who he said he was, but still questioned the actual intent of the soliciting.

July 4: A man was reported making a suspicious phone call to a female in Helaman Halls in which he claimed he was doing a psychology project and then proceeded to hypnotize the female student on the other end of the line. The roommate of the female came home to find her asleep on the floor. The female is reported of reacting strangely when certain words are spoken. Incidents of a similar nature have occurred about two dozen times in the past. There are no suspects, but the incident is still under investigation.

July 3: A 47-year-old man was reported to be sleeping in Riverside Park. When police arrived, they found him to be intoxicated from drinking Listerine and upset at the disturbance. No further action was taken.

July 3: An individual was reported to be arguing with a Wendy's employee late Tuesday night. The individual was upset because the employee would not accept his walk-up order. The officer backed up the employee and sent the individual home.

Traffic Offense:

July 6: BYU police were called out to assist Provo police who had pulled over a man for a traffic offense who did not speak English. Upon arrival of the Spanish-speaking officer, the man realized he was getting a ticket despite the language barrier and was able to speak English fluently.
