The body of BYU student Camille Cleverley was found Sunday afternoon near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon.

Trained search and rescue teams found Camille's body at the base of a 200-foot cliff in a rugged area east of Bridal Veil Falls, according to wire reports.

Cleverley's father, Joel, confirmed her identity at the scene, said Utah County Sheriff James O. Tracy. She had her backpack with her.

"She even had the drink bottles we'd been looking for," Tracy said.

Authorities speculated Camille had been hiking on the cliff, where there are several trails. Somehow she slipped off the side and fell into a heavily wooded area, according to news reports.

Four different searches had gone through that area, and on the last, she was found.

Her family was there searching for her, and was taken into the command center trailer after search and rescue found her body.

The medical examiner's office took the body away from the canyon Sunday evening.

Provo police Capt. Cliff Argyle said the injuries were consistent with a fall, but it was too early to rule out foul play.

"How she ended up there, we're not sure," Argyle said.

While there was a sadness at the discovery, there was also a sense of closure for many of the people who had been there for days.

The search centered at Bridal Veil Falls after two local residents came forward and indicated that two days after Cleverley's disappearance, they had picked up a bicycle in the area that answered the description of Cleverley's bike. They said they cut the bike's chains and took it because they believed it was abandoned. The news came almost a week after the disappearance.

Camille would go on a bike ride every Friday, according to Robert Grossman, the family’s spokesman.

“David Cleverly, Camille’s brother, described her as a brother more than a sister,” Grossman said. “She was always playing a lot of sports…very athletic. It is a big loss for Dave and his family, and they will always remember her in the warmest ways.”

Grossman added that the family never gave up hope.

“They are so strong, and have so much faith,” he said. “They are going to get through this ... they get strength from each other, and they are going to get through this.”

In light of Sunday's discovery, the planned Sunday candlelight vigil at BYU was changed to a memorial. Her parents were in attendance.

"The family was always determined to find Camille," Grossman said. "They had never wavered in their determination. There was never an iota or hint of giving up, and they were out there everyday and they were out over by the bike trails and the falls, trying to use their best intuition to think of where she was."

Efforts to locate Cleverley included search and rescue teams in Provo Canyon and volunteer searches conducted around the Provo area.
