The newly remodeled University Mall Cinema will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday by televising the BYU vs. Tulsa football game at 7:00 p.m.

“It will be a fun and exciting atmosphere where you can watch the game with your friends in a spacious theater instead of cramped up in your apartments,” said Shannon Shupe, a representative of Festival Cinemas. “Admission is free and the game will broadcast in HDTV.”

The theater has undergone major interior and exterior renovations, including new floors and concession stands. The changes are the result of the recent purchasing of the theater by Utah businessman Brady Whitting-ham and filmmaker Tyson Measom.

“No one will even recognize the theater. It looks like a brand new, up-to-date, modern theater,” said Shupe.

Free popcorn, balloons and gift certificates for free films and other prizes will be part of the festivities this weekend.

“We’re transforming the theater into a place for premium entertain-ment, with plans to also show free games on the big screen, including some Monday Night Football, BYU games, Ute games and Jazz playoff games-starting with the BYU game this weekend,” said Whitingham in a pres release.

The showing of the BYU game will also give those without Comcast an opportunity to see the game.

Festival Cinemas is located at 959 S. 700 E. in Orem, next to Costco.
