Tip of the Week: BYU police encourage students to refrain from leaving anything valuable in their cars.

Criminal Mischief

Feb. 24: Residents of Heritage Halls called BYU police when they discovered a vandalized car outside their dorm. The vandals had painted obscenities and lewd pictures in foam on the car. No permanent damage was done.

Fraud

Feb. 21: A female student called BYU police when she suspected she might have been a victim of fraud. The student received an email from an individual offering to buy her housing contract. When she received their check for $4,000.00 she became suspicious it might be fake. She took the check to BYU police where officers determined that the check was counterfeit.

Medical

Feb. 19: A 24-year-old male student dislocated his shoulder while in the pool at the Richards Building. He was treated by BYU emergency medical services and was released.

Missing Person

Feb. 23: BYU police recovered a missing person. The female juvenile had run away from a facility in Salt Lake City and had been riding the UTA bus all day. The bus driver confronted her and turned her over to the custody of the BYU Police.

Suspicious Behavior

Feb. 24: Two male students were reported for suspicious behavior at 1:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the J. Reuben Clark Building when they were lurking around and hiding behind cars. After questioning them, BYU police determined that they were playing a prank on their roommate who parked in his car and was with a friend.

Feb. 25: A homeless man was in the Wilkinson Student Center asking students for money for an organization dedicated to locating missing children. After questioning him, BYU police suspect the man is not a spokesman for any organization and was simply panhandling.
