Local music bands are joining together to help save a life.
Daniel Hedlund, a BYU advertising major, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma a bone cancer, last semester only a few weeks after he got married.
To help out, three of Hedlund's mission buddies are teaming up to hold a benefit concert on March 5. . All proceeds from the concert will go to help fight his disease.
Hedlund had gone to the doctor complaining that his leg had been sore for over a month and an MRI showed a large tumor on his left femur.
"Daniel is so upbeat, nice, and positive all the time, so we thought this concert was the least we could do," Greg Rhinehart said, one of his mission friends who will be performing
The concert's theme "After the Rain comes the Rainbow" is a tribute to Daniel and his wife Melanie who have turned to the scriptures in their time of need.
The performers hope to raise as much as possible through the concert. "We know that the money we raise won't be nearly as much as they need," Monahan said. "So more than raising money, this concert is to raise hope."
Elise Glover and Roxeanne Robison will be performing at the concert, as well as bands "After Midnight" and "Truman," winner of BYU's Battle of the Bands.
Some raffle items include gear from Billabong and Neff, shirts from designbyhumans.com, a snowboard, gift certificates to Tucanos, Snowbird lift passes, gift certificate for Quicksilver and luggage from Volcom.
Mission buddies aren't the only one's honoring Daniel Hedlund. He was also recently chosen as "Thursday's Hero" by the BYU football team.
