The BYU hockey team ended their season with the biggest margin of victory over Utah this season.
Freshman Cameron King started the scoring for the Cougars with the first goal and ended it in the third period with goal seventeen for BYU.
"I think I scored more than I did all season," King said. "It was a fun game."
King wasn't the only Cougar putting pucks in the net. Twelve players accounted for BYU's seventeen goals.
Seniors James Burkart, Derek Battisti and Jason Griffiths combined for four of the goals in the last game of their college careers.
Battisti, who started playing for the Cougars in 2001, said the last game was bittersweet.
"I've been here for a long time and it's been fun, but it's time to leave," Battisti said.
Griffiths echoed the same sentiments. "It's crazy that it's over."
The Cougars started slow in the first half of the game, scoring only four goals and allowing Utah one.
The Utes scored with a little over eight minutes left in the second period, narrowing the lead to two.
But the Cougars came back to score four goals and let Utah slide in their third and last goal of the game before the second period ended.
The Cougars didn't let up in the third period as they fired shot after shot at the Utah goal.
BYU found a weakness on the right side of the goal and slid three pucks in that corner in the first five minutes of the period.
With just under ten minutes left to play, a brawl between the two teams broke out. Sticks, gloves and a helmet littered the ice around the Utah goal.
Five players ended up in the penalty box and a three-on-three situation followed.
Burkart intercepted a Utah pass and went one-on-one with the goalie before flipping the puck into the top netting.
BYU scored two more goals before King scored his fifth goal of the night and ended the game the way it started.
Coach Ed Gantt said he was happy with the team's performance.
"In terms of the game and how we played, I think we played really well," Gantt said. "It's definitely a high note to end the season."
