VIP sell-back will open on Thursday, with regular sell-back starting Friday.

The BYU Bookstore is having its annual textbook sell-back next week.

The sell-back will begin April 18 at 7:50 a.m. and end April 24 at 6 p.m.

This semester there will be additional sell-back locations in the Cannon Center and Wyview Park's Multipurpose Building.

VIP members, those who swiped their BYU ID when they purchased their books, will receive up to 60 percent of their current retail price and can begin selling their books back one day earlier on April 17.

"We are one of only two bookstores which sell back at 60 percent," said Tom Hirtzel, textbook department employee.

The BYU Bookstore will not buy back textbooks that have not been requested for a future term and are not overstocked from prior terms.

"We don't create buy-back lists, the faculty do," Hirtzel said.

Hirtzel suggests that students remind their professors to turn in their textbook requests on time.

"There is nothing worse for us than having a request come in late when we could have bought back hundreds of books," Hirtzel said.

Clay Christenson, a communications studies major, says he expects to sell back his books for $200.

"I always get less than I expect to get, " Christenson said. "I've tried selling back at other places but I receive about the same amount of money."

In order to be sold back, textbooks must also be in good condition without torn pages.

Fernando Mladineo, a BYU graduate student, plans on getting only $70 back from the bookstore this year, but says it is usually the best option for him.

"The bookstore is nice because they buy back a lot of books," Mladineo said. "I might get a higher price elsewhere but there's no guarantee that I'll be able to sell my book and after commission and shipping I don't always make that much more than the BYU Bookstore."
