Cougar United will sponsor the annual Movie Night at Miller Field this Saturday, featuring "The Sandlot."

Players and fans will gather together under the stars to watch the film and enjoy the baseball field in a different setting.

"The evening is a chance for the players and fans to come together," said Josh Reschke, executive officer of Cougar United.

Admission is free for BYU students and All-Sport Pass holders. Public tickets are $3 at the gate and children twelve and under are $1.

The movie starts at 9 p.m. but fans will want to arrive when the gates open at 8 p.m. in order to participate in all of the festivities.

Before the movie starts the Cougar baseball team will introduce themselves, help give prizes to the fans, and answer questions. Fans who usually only see the players wearing a uniform and swinging a bat will get to know the players a bit more candidly.

"Movie Night gives the students an opportunity to see the players in a different light: off the field and more personal," Reschke said.

Reschke also said the movie night is not only fun for the fans and players; it also helps build fan loyalty.

"Loyalty comes from getting to know the players on a personal level," Reschke said.

In addition to the chance to meet the players, there will be hundreds of dollars of gift cards and prizes given away to the fans before the movie starts.

The movie night has been held on and off annually for the last eight years. In the past, over 1,500 fans show up to lend their support to the team, and enjoy a movie under the stars.

"It's a great opportunity to enjoy the baseball atmosphere, being in the ballpark," said Meagan Robinson, who works with athletic marketing.

Robinson said this is a really unique opportunity that fans living in Provo don't get very often.

The movie night comes on the heels of the Cougars three-game home stand against the University of New Mexico Lobos.

"The Sandlot" was also shown two years ago, and "The Rookie" was shown last year.

The concession stands will be open for the evening, and the event will be postponed for a week in the event of rain or inclement weather.
