In celebration of National Nurses Week, which runs May 6 through May 12, BYU's Nursing College will provide students with the opportunity to receive free blood pressure checks.
Due to last year's success with blood pressure screenings on campus, screening will be made available to students and faculty at multiple locations.
Starting today, student nurses will conduct screenings from 10 a.m. until noon in the main entrance of the SWKT, and in the Nurses Learning Center and the Wilkinson Center from noon to 3:30 p.m.
The screenings will continue through Thursday in both locations. Each individual screening will last no longer than three minutes.
"Nurses: Making a Difference Every Day," is the theme for the commemorative week, set aside to honor the 3 million registered nurses across the nation.
In addition to it being National Nurses Week, May is national blood pressure month. During the month of May, the College of Nursing wants to help students become aware of their blood pressures.
Screenings provide "a way to help and remind students to see a doctor," said Rose Ann Jarrett, Public Relations Supervisor for the Nursing College.
These screenings also provide nursing students with an opportunity to practice the skills they are learning.
