Guest Artists Announced for 2008-09 Performances

The College of Fine Arts and Communications announced this year's prominent guest artists for the 2008-2009 season.

The season will begin with Taal Yatra. The ensemble integrates traditional Indian classical compositions with modern beats; combining drums and keyboards to create music. "An Odyssey Into Rhythm," will take place in the de Jong Concert Hall in September.

In October, the Shangri-la Chinese acrobats will demonstrate years of training from the Hai family, renowned for their acrobatic skills. They will perform balancing feats and martial arts displays in a show for all ages.

Later in February, David Angus, honorary conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders, will lead the Utah Symphony in Bruncker's Symphony No.4, "Romantic". Angus has led many renowned British and opera orchestras.

In November, Croatia's renowned Saxophone Quartet Zagreb will come to Provo. The quartet, formed in 1989, is made up of graduates of the University of Zagreb Music Academy. This world traveling group will perform pieces originally written for saxophone quartets as well as arrangements from the Baroque period to the 21st century.

The chamber music ensemble, American Brass Quintet, will take the stage later in November.

Vivaldi's Baroque period composition "The Four Seasons" will be performed by the Utah Symphony Chamber Orchestra in January at the de Jong concert hall.

Jennifer Larmore, the 2007 Best Opera Recording Grammy winner will take the stage in February. Larmore has recorded more than 70 albums which earned her the distinction of being the most-recorded mezzo-soprano of all time.

The 5 Browns, a quintet of brothers and sisters who are all Julliard graduates will perform in February. Their third album recording "Browns In Blue" was well received by audiences upon its release in October.

The season will come to a close in March with the Parsons Dance Company. This New York-based dance group combines gestures and movements of modern dance with the discipline and precision expected of a classical company.
