As World Water Week comes to a close, Utah Tap Project participants are happy with the efforts that have guided the campaign to such great success.
Utah has embraced the Tap Project and the opportunity to celebrate life.
According to the Tap Project’s Web site, “For every dollar raised, a child will have clean drinking water for 40 days.”
Thirty-six restaurants spread throughout Utah have chosen to participate in the UNICEF’s quest to raise $1 million during World Water Week.
Restaurants have asked their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free.
BYU’s ad lab was chosen by UNICEF to run the Tap Project campaign for all of Utah.
“There has been an outstanding number of local people willing to give of their time to help create art for this project,” said Tommy Currit, a senior heavily involved in the Tap Project. “The work of Utah artists has been featured on blogs, iTunes, and through major national advertising agencies. It really is incredible to see the quality of work that is being produced.”
Heftel Studios played a major role in the mixing of songs created by local artists helping to produce professional-quality radio, Web and TV spots for the project.
McKay Stevens, co-owner of Northplatte Records, was also a major sponsor of the project, giving his time, talent and resources to create songs that were played on local and national media.
“There have been so many elements that have been utilized in the creation of this campaign,” said Skyler Stevenson, a senior who serves as the President of BYU’s U.S. Fund for UNICEF. “So many local people have been willing to create a difference.”
There are currently 1,500 restaurants nationwide participating in the Tap Project.
All 14 of Utah’s cinemas have shown the Tap Project’s video clip before movies playing this week.
With only one day left before the conclusion of World Water Week there are still three important things that can be done to get involved in the Tap movement.
Those who wish to participate can log onto tapproject.org to make online donations, visit a participating restaurant to make a donation or text TAP to UNICEF to make a one time $5 contribution.
There will also be a black and white theme dance held at UVU from 9 p.m. to midnight with $1 of each ticket going to the Tap Project.
