Frilly dresses, glittering diamonds and dazzling crowns are overtaking a local bridal store for a mother-daughter princess day Friday from noon to 7 p.m.
Cinderella’s Closet, located at 226 E. University Parkway in Orem, is hosting its first annual Princess Day for Mother’s Day. This free mother-daughter affair brings princesses to life through pictures with Cinderella and other courtly activities.
“Participants can decorate crowns, dress up as princesses, and receive a royal up-do for their hair,” said Sabina Beck, owner of Cinderella’s Closet.
A percentage of Friday’s dress sales will go to the 13th annual Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure taking place the following day. Chocolate suckers will also be on sale during Princess Day with 100 percent of those proceeds going to the race.
The Race for the Cure will take place in Salt Lake City at the Gateway mall. Beck and her mother will be participating in the race. Her mother, Cathy Huff, organizes a bus transport from Provo to the race.
“I get people to sign up and become a co-partner in the race, “Huff said. “It’s great that Cinderella’s Closet will host an event to raise money for donations.”
Beck and Huff’s personal motivation for raising money involves family. Huff’s aunts have fought breast cancer.
“My mother-in-law has fought the cancer and some of my great aunts are currently fighting,” Beck said. “I always try to support anything that will benefit this cause.”
Cinderella’s Closet first opened in 2006 and just recently moved to its Orem location. They specialize in outfitting the bridal party in customized dresses. According to a media notice, brides shop at this store because they can coordinate the entire bridal party no matter style, size or fabric.
