The Jonas Brothers said they have fond memories of Independence Day and this year thousands of devoted fans will get a chance to celebrate it with them here in Provo.
The Jonas Brothers will be performing in the Stadium of Fire in the LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, July 4 at 8 p.m. The show will be hosted by Glenn Beck with a guest performance by SHeDAISY, the popular country trio from Magna. Tickets are still available starting at $35 at BYUtickets.com.
Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas have been nominated for a Grammy, won two MTV awards, have been on the cover of Rolling Stone and Billboard magazine, and have been invited to perform at the White House, said Candice Copple, assistant director of America’s Freedom Festival.
According to Newsweek, the boy band wears purity rings on their left hand to signify their desire to remain chaste until marriage. As sons of a Christian minister, the brothers also don’t drink, smoke or swear — all values that are similar to LDS beliefs.
Despite their seeming contrast to most other rock bands, the Jonas Brothers told The Daily Universe they don’t feel pressured to compromise their beliefs.
“I think for us, you know, our faith comes first and it always has,” Joe Jonas said. “It’s a big part of everything we do. I don’t necessarily think there are too many pressures.”
The brothers have fond childhood recollections of the Fourth of July growing up in a small town in New Jersey.
“We have one big memory when we first started touring,” Joe Jonas said. “We were actually in Tennessee. We spent the whole day walking around, having barbeque. It’s just one of those memories that you kind of never will forget.”
The band plans to spend the day in Provo with good friends, possibly play a game of softball and have a barbeque.
“We’re definitely looking forward to seeing all the fans,” Joe Jonas said. “The Stadium of Fire show is going to be unbelievable. And we’re so honored to be a part of it.”
Finally, there’s one big misconception out there the Jonas Brothers said they felt the need to clear up.
“People think we take a long time to get ready in the morning for some reason,” Joe Jonas said. “They think we take a long time to get our hair done. And I’ll clear that one up. It’s not really true. We get up, get in the shower and walk out the door.”
And they still manage to have sold-out tours and platinum-selling albums.
